Eczema Food Allergies Can Be Treated

Eczema food allergies are common, especially amongst children whose bodies react to proteins. These protein foods are typically given to the child during early childhood, when the condition develops. There are both animal and plant proteins which can cause this reaction, and similar symptoms of the skin. There is a way in which this type of skin reaction can be considered a positive sign, because it means the body is attempting to deal with the allergen in a way which is unlikely to cause a serious long term threat to health.

The proteins in food can be mistaken for toxic substances, and it is this which causes the immune system to react in the way it does. These reactions can be extreme, and can even cause death. Nut proteins are the most common triggers of the most extreme reactions which are seen, although animal proteins can also cause them. The skin reaction is thankfully far more common, and while it can cause acute discomfort it does at least allow time for the condition to be treated.

The only real way to eliminate the problems caused by this type of food allergy is to make sure that none of the offending substance reaches the human body. This is easier to say than it is to do, as you first have to identify the protein which is causing the reaction. Clues can be gained by carrying out blood tests. These tests can show which substances are being produced by the body in its attempt to fight off the substance it believes is toxic. In the end, though, only a process of eliminating foods one by one can provide the definitive solution.

It is common to treat skin conditions by applying creams and ointments to the skin, and while this may provide some degree of short term pain relief it certainly has no potential to eliminate the condition. Make sure that the body does not take in any of the problem substance, and if there is a reaction try to carry out more research into why. It may be that a food has not been properly labeled, and bringing this to the attention of other people could save further incidents from happening.

Eczema food allergies may be extremely difficult to live with, but they do have one overriding positive feature, and that is that you are able to live with them. There are food allergies which can put your very life under threat, especially those allergies which involve nuts. The reaction can involve the cessation of breath, and this can be fatal if medical assistance is not on hand. At least with a skin condition there is no threat to the breathing mechanism, and there is always a chance to work on the affected areas.

There are more treatments for eczema based allergies than many others, simply because the skin is more visible and the area of the symptom is easily accessed. These treatments can be anything from creams and ointments to herbal remedies applied to the skin, and even the use of heat or cold. The treatments can be designed to draw any poison out of the skin to allow an area to heal, or they can simply be to stop the irritation and reduce the need for scratching. Internal treatments are also available which seek to work on the nerves which transmit pain to certain areas of the brain, just to reduce the need to scratch and to get the patient through the working day.

There are many ways in which eczema treatments could be improved in the coming years. Obviously the most heartening of these would be a complete cure for the allergy which was causing the reaction. This can only happen when the cause is identified. There are eminent scientists who believe there will be a vaccine solution to this problem in the near future. Until then, the skin condition can be treated and the symptoms made less. It is vital to make sure that any treatment you do use has few side effects, otherwise you could simply be creating something even worse than the skin problem in trying to conquer it. More research is needed into gentler natural therapies.

Support groups and online forums can give sufferers of eczema food allergies the way to share this important information, as well as extra help in dealing with the condition itself. A long period of avoiding the food which causes the reaction will usually be enough to allow the eczema to recede, and the allergy itself will often clear up if it is in very early childhood. If the condition is still in place when the child is twelve, there is a greatly reduced chance that they will completely recover from their eczema food allergies.
